Have you been spotting the ‘glass skin’ look on Insta? We interviewed Heer Sanjay Lalwani, Marketing Manager at The Face Shop to explore what it is and how to get the look at home
- What is glass skin?
This skin care trend, originally from Korea, refers to a smooth and flawless complexion that reflects light like a piece of glass. Simply put, is all about skin that’s healthy, hydrated and toned, it’s practically as shiny and smooth as a glass window.
It can be achieved by religiously following a strategic and effective skincare regime that involves layering skin with numerous lightweight formulas infused with nourishing vitamins and botanicals. If you’ve been keeping up with skincare trends over the past several years, it is quite evident that South Korea has been the center of all things amazing when it comes to beauty trends. It has opened our eyes to innovations like cushion compacts and ampoules and many more things.
- Why has it suddenly become popular with celebrities?
It started when a Korean makeup artist, based in Los Angeles, shared her skincare routine on social media, and her practically poreless, clear-as-glass skin got everyone’s hearts racing. Since then, skin-care obsessives have been vying for the techniques and products that yield the preternaturally luminous glow.
- It seems like a multiple-product process – is it easy to achieve and do you think the trend is here to stay?
Getting glass skin isn’t as intensive as following a12-step regime, but it does require more effort than a swipe with a makeup remover wipe. The key is moisture, moisture, and more moisture! We feel the trend is here to stay as who wouldn’t want a complexion that’s smooth and flawless all year around.
- How can readers achieve the look at home?
First of all, exfoliation is key and helps to remove excess dirt, oil, impurities and dead skin cells that cause that familiar rough and porous texture. If you like the feel of a traditional scrub, try a sugar scrub. It helps to transform dulling and fatigued complexions using a blend of honey & black sugar and locks in all the natural benefits while exfoliating the skin.
If you prefer something that doesn’t feel too grainy on the skin, try The Face Shop’s Smart peeling White Jewel scrub. This scrub is perfect to exfoliate normal to dry skin as it does not rid the skin of excess oil while exfoliation. Next up is a hydrating serum, which helps to lock in moisture and keep the skin glowing.
Make sure you top up throughout the day with a face mist to keep hydration locked into your skin. If you have sensitive skin, try the Dr. Belmeur facial mist which moisturizes and soothes skin all day long.
