Rebecca Treston discusses ways to tone and tighten face skin that becomes loose over time

I have noticed that the skin on my face seems to be becoming loose. What can I do?

Skin laxity is a common problem as we age. In the past, when this happened, people turned to a plastic surgeon and used fillers such as Sculpture and Radiesse to stimulate the collagen, which would improve the laxity.

However, in my opinion, fillers should only be used to add volume to the face while energy-based devices should be used to really improve and rejuvenate the skin. To address skin laxity – and get the best possible improvement, it is better to use non-invasive energy-based treatments and lasers, which can lift and tighten your skin by acting on the sub-dermal layers. It’s always best to rejuvenate first and then once the laser treatment has been completed, you can have filler to add volume.

For those who are in their early 30s and have just started to see the visible signs of aging, radio-frequency is a terrific treatment. Radio Frequency lifts and tightens the skin without any surgical involvement or damage to the skin’s surface. Radio Frequency is a fascinating and innovative method of skin revitalisation and uses electric current technology to penetrate deep into the skin and stimulate the underlying tissue.  The main component of the treatment is thermal energy, which is delivered deep into the dermal layer of the skin. This then works to tighten the skin by promoting the production of collagen, as well as increasing oxygen and nutrients to support the skin’s natural regenerative processes.

Two of my favourite treatments to treat skin laxity are Fotona 4D and Ulthera.

The revolutionary Fotona 4d Facelift is a new, non-surgical procedure that offers the chance for all skin-types to experience facial rejuvenation without any of the negative impacts of surgery. The specialist treatment works effectively against any signs of sagging or wrinkling, and will combat all of the physical markers of ageing. Not only does this unique combination of laser lifting technology ensure that your skin is restored to its natural and youthful appearance, but the advanced scientific technology also works alongside the skin’s natural defences to provide a result that is immediate and long lasting.

Ulthera or Ultherapy is miracle treatment is winning a slew of accolades for being the ultimate age-defying therapy. In fact, Ultherapy is proven to be the best non-invasive alternative to plastic surgery on the market. It is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound imaging, which has been scientifically proven to yield highly effective results, Ultherapy is acclaimed as a lunchtime treatment, meaning it requires no downtime, only takes 45-60 minutes and leaves you looking younger and more refreshed without a scalpel in sight! With its ability to stimulate collagen production to tighten the skin around the neck and face, it’s the perfect treatment for those who don’t need (or who are not ready for) a facelift. While the full results will only be visible within two to three months as the collagen keeps regenerating itself, you do notice an instant lift with skin tightened and lifted by 30 per cent. With the process triggering the body’s natural response to repair-heal and to replace the damaged cells with fresh, collagen-rich tissue, over time this new collagen lifts the skin. Best of all, results can last for up to two years!
