Step aside argan oil. It’s time we make way for this French beauty secret, plum oil

Rich in antioxidants, polyphenols and fatty acids, this oil deeply nourishes your skin from free radical damage, while helping repair the existing damage done to our skin – Thank you, ever changing weather! The result? A healthy, radiant complexion.

Derived from plums, this oil can be used just about anywhere on your body, from your face, to lips, hair and cuticles. It’s similar to a beauty balm in many ways and comprises pro-vitamins A and E, fatty acids to heal your skin, and Vitamin C which reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Plum oil is also eight times more powerful than argan oil and six times more powerful than marula oil. Those who want to layer it under make-up during the day can absolutely do so, as it’s lightweight and sinks in quickly.

We recently came across Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil at Comptoir 102 in Dubai, and tried on the California-based brand’s oil, harvested from the founders’ family farm – which also happens to be the largest organic grower and distributor of dried plums in the area. This oil is rich in Vitamins A and E (antioxidants that help minimize the signs of aging), omega fatty acids (these moisturize and help maintain the skin’s natural barrier) and polyphenols (another antioxidant that helps repair damaged skin). It’s also non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic.

How to use it? Mix it into your favourite face or body moisturiser to reap the benefits. To keep locks hydrated and give it a slight sheen, run plum oil through dry or frizzy hair. You can also use it instead of olive or coconut oil to make a lip exfoliator with sugar.
