Beauty and fitness influencer Leila Bauer gives us a run-through of her skincare and makeup routine
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
I normally roll out of bed and stretch for 5 minutes. This is very important to me because it relieves stress and allows me to have more energy.
Any morning health/well-being rituals?
I drink warm lemon water which detoxifies your liver, aids with weight loss, clears skin and gets the digestive system going. Second, I drink celery juice which has numerous benefits including preventing cancer and liver diseases. I also drink the metal detox smoothie every couple days, which is not only delicious but contains many healthy and beneficial ingredients geared to clear out heavy metals such as mercury and aluminum from my system. These morning rituals keep me full enough to carry on with the rest of my morning.
Your morning skincare routine
My skin routine does not involve many products, I like to keep things simple with my combinational skin type. It can get oily on my T-Zone and dry everywhere else. I’ve always has a struggle finding the right face wash and moisturizer for my skin type as many of them either dry me out or make my skin oily. I found that the Dermalogica face cleansing wash and oily free moisturizer works the best for me.
Your favourite foundation and concealer
My go-to for foundation is Chanel’s Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum with SPF 15. I love it because it’s light and looks more natural, and has additional sun protection. After that, I apply concealer on any blemishes and under my eyes. I use the Radiant Creamy Concealer stick by Nars. However, if I’m going for a more dramatic look I use a heavier foundation, such as the Huda Beauty Faux Filter in the shade Latte.
What’s in your make-up bag?
For brows, I use the Anastasia Brow Pencil in the shade Taupe – I use the pencil over the dip brow because it gives me the natural look I like. For bronzer, I use the Chocolate Soleil by Too-Faced. and for blush, I normally use products from Chanel or Mac. As for highlighter, I prefer Mac, Urban Decay, and Fenty Beauty. For mascara, I swear by the Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara by Two-Faced. Every other mascara I’ve used was very heavy and clumpy but this was the first mascara that worked perfectly for me. For my lips, I use lip glosses from Chanel, YSL, Gucci, Fenty Beauty, Sephora, Mac, and many others. Lastly, for Primer, I use Primed & Poreless Soothing Face Primer by Two-Faced and I set everything in with the Urban Decay setting spray.
What sort of look do you usually opt for?
When I’m going somewhere casual, I still want to look decent, so I go for a “no makeup, makeup look” This look involves wearing minimal makeup so people can hardly tell I am wearing any at all, while also covering up any flaws, blemishes or to emphasize beauty features such as my eyes or brows.
How do you stay healthy?
I believe there are a few core factors that are essential in looking and being healthy and hydrated. First, drinking water is the key to hydration and has many beneficial traits to it. Second, relieving stress. Being stress-free is very important and there are many ways to help someone become stress-free, such as working out, yoga, breathing exercises, and so on. Third, sleeping is very important for looking and being healthy. When you sleep, your skin replenishes as well as the rest of your body. If you are sleep-deprived this can often lead to weight gain and a faster aging process. Lastly, your diet. They say “you are what you eat”. Obviously if you are eating 10 slices of cake a day, your body and skin won’t be as you would most likely wish for. If you improve your diet by eating less dairy and sugar and more fruits and vegetables, this can result in better skin and can help you lose weight.
Any oils/masks you use in specific?
For face masks, I often use Glam Glow to prevent acne and smoothen skin. I love when my skin is smooth and soft. I do not use face masks that often because some of them make my skin break out more. I prefer getting a facial as they know what’s best for my skin, and if I can’t head to a salon or spa, I apply a face mask one to two times a week before going to bed.
Favorite fragrance?
I believe that fragrances can impact the way someone comes off which is why I am very picky with which perfumes I use. For example, if I am going for a delicate sweet smell I usually will use Coco Chanel or Gucci Bloom. If I am going for a casual smell I will use a fragrance from Jo Malone. Some of my favorite brands for perfumes are Givenchy, Jo Malone, Gucci, and Chanel.
What’s the last element of your routine ?
Before leaving my house, I always make sure I look and smell nice if I am going out. I also will go through my entire closet and create a storm just so that I can find the perfect outfit. Lastly, I make sure I have everything is in my purse such as my wallet, gum, lip gloss, and sometimes a pair of glasses.
